The Perfect Wife * JP Delaney

The perfect life. The perfect love. The perfect lie.

Abbie awakens in a daze with no memory of who she is or how she landed in this unsettling condition. The man by her side claims to be her husband. He's a titan of the tech world, the founder of one of Silicon Valley's most innovative start-ups.

He tells Abbie that she is a gifted artist, an avid surfer, a loving mother to their young son, and the perfect wife.

If you loved your wife, you'd do anything to bring her back...wouldn't you?

When Abbie awakes in hospital, she has no memory of how she got there. In fact, it isn't even a hospital at all, it's her husbands company, Scott Robotics - and she's plugged in.

Soon her beloved husband announces that she's actually a robotic version of her old self. Downloaded memories, charging systems and silicone skin.

But something isn't right. Scott says that her old self, the real Abbie, went missing five years ago. But why, all those years ago would she leave her only son Danny all by himself? And why won't your family have anything to do with Scott or yourself?

As she tries to piece together the missing memories, the disappearance of the real Abbie and the trail of secrets and lies that she left in her wake. Her only questions are...

What happened to the real Abbie Cullen-Scott? Why did she go missing? And if she didn't...what is your husband hiding from you?

The Perfect Wife by JP Delaney, is the third psychological thriller that has come from this stunning author. I was lucky enough to request the book and was so pleased to find out that they had let me have the ARC for an honest review, so thank you to NetGally and Quercus.

What a page tuner! I literally couldn't stop reading it, straight from the start the book grips you with its creepy and eerie writing. The characters in the book were likeable, I mostly liked Abbie and her young son Danny.

The book focuses around AI-Abbie and her current state in life and how she got there, as the story unfolds its clear how mess-up Scott is. Put it this way, if you love futuristic things, technology or even the TV programme Westworld, then you'll love this read.

In places, the book does get slightly confusing with flitting from the past and present, whilst being narrated by a few characters and there being two main people of the same name. The ending took me a little while to get my head around it, but once I did...wow. That's all I can say.  And I did enjoy it more than its predecessor 'Believe Me'

The book is out now, and if you're in need of a new twisty read with a great plot line, then I suggest you give this one a try. I'm looking forward to more of Delaney's books and can't wait to see what's on offer next!

I will be giving this book a 9 out of 10
